‘Words Failed Me’ Oyebanji Declares as He Visits Parents of 33-year-old late supporter.
The Ekiti State Governor-Elect, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, betrayed emotion on Tuesday evening when he paid a condolence visit to the parents of 33-year-old Aarinola Titilope Adekunle, who died on Monday after a brief illness.
Titilope, a mother of one, served in the social media committee of Oyebanji during the build-up campaign to the governorship election.
Oyebanji, who laced his short speech with relevant biblical quotes at the Ado-Ekiti home of the deceased said the news of the death of such a vibrant lady devastated him and his followers.
“Words failed me. The death of Titi was choking and like a thunderbolt. It would take a long time for the wound to be healed. She contributed hugely to our campaign and her contributions contributed hugely to our victory at the poll. Unfortunately, she died when we least expected but who are we, ordinary mortals, to question God. Our solace lies in the fact that her short sojourn on the surface of the earth was eventful. She lived a life of the righteous and contributed meaningfully to the growth of her society.”
Speaking further, the governor-elect consoled and prayed for Titi’s Mother, Mrs. Funmilayo Adekunle, and her father Hon. Peters Mayegun and members of the family, assuring them that he would make sure that their daughter’s death would not be in vain. He also added that he would put necessary measures in place to make sure her 7-year-old son didn’t suffer anything.
“I don’t know the right words with which I would console Hon. Mayegun and other members of the family pray that God in his infinite mercy strengthens them and gives them the fortitude to bear the loss. Losing a child at a young age is the worst that can happen to any parent but we pray God holds them and supports the family. As for the son she left behind, I’m assuring you that I will do everything humanly possible to make sure he lacks nothing. We also pray that God keeps him for us to fulfill his destiny.”
Top members of the Biodun Oyebanji Campaign Organisation, including Hon. Gbenga Agbeyo, Hon. Dolamu Adeniyi and Alhaji Dauda Lawal, with whom Titilope worked during the campaign, were among scores of supporters, who accompanied the governor-elect on the visit.
