A former commissioner in Ondo State, Asiwaju Adekanmbi has expressed sadness over attacks on worshippers at St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street in Owo.
Adekanmbi who condemned the attacks in strong term described it as a wicked act targeting at innocent people who are exercising their religious obligations as enshrined in the constitution and universal rights to freedom association.
He added that the attack on the innocent worshippers was a deliberate evil plan by some criminal and disgruntled elements within the system to use religious sentiment to distabilize the country for their selfish interest.
“The mindless attack by these gunmen on members of St. Francis Catholic Church Owo is barbaric, as this heneous crime against innocent people must be resisted by all means, this is our land, we have no other place to call our own, Adekanmbi lamented.
“This gruesome murder of several lives by this unscrupulous elements is one of their strategies to cause another religious crisis in the state, as this will not be allowed” he added.
Adekanmbi condoles the Governor of Ondo state, who is also an indigene of Owo, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin, Ogunoye III, Catholic Church and family of the deceased in particular and prayed for the repose of the soul of the worshippers.
Adekanmbi appealed to the residents to be calm saying government will do everything within it’s power to being the perpetrators to book
