ONDO GOVERNMENT TAKES CAMPAIGN AGAINST RITUAL KILLINGS TO COUNCIL OF OBA
In its bid to curb the ugly trend of Ritual killing also known as Yahoo-plus in the Sunshine State, the Ondo State Government has taken deliberate step with a sensitization visit to Council of Obas.
Following the approval of the Executive Council, the Office of the Special Adviser, Gender has embarked on interface with related MDAs and Traditional Rulers on the implementation of strategies to stem ritual related crimes in the State.
Special Adviser, Gender, Olamide Falana at a meeting with Grade A Traditional Rulers in the State, noted that it is necessary to meet with the Rulers who are valid Agents of Change in their domain.
“In other to address money ritual in the Society, it is important to intimate our Traditional rulers about the danger of the popular ‘Quick wealth sydrome’ because they are in charge of their domain. They are enjoined to come up with strategies to put an end to this trend through setting up of Committee to monitor the activities of traditionalist and herbalists in their respective areas’
It would be recalled that earlier in the year, some teenage boys within the age bracket of 17/18yrs old slaughtered the lover of one of them and burnt her head for money ritual.
Another viral news is that of a 85yr old woman who was raped, killed and kept under the bed for same money ritual.
Falana who lamented that demand for human body parts especially that of women to enhance quick wealth is cruel also highlighted the dangers of ritual killing among which are low interest in Education, less value for human life and hardwork among others.
Responding, the traditional rulers pledged to work in collaboration with the effort of Government in its campaign against Money Ritual killing with the aim in other to build a better and safer society.
However, Members of the Council charged Government to embark on massive sensization & Advocacy at the grassroot and also ensure perpetrators of such crime caught in the web of the Law to be duly punished.
The Chairman, Ondo State Council of Oba, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Odundun II traced the bane of the challenge to the family. He harped on the need for
parents especially Mothers to mentor their wards to live a decent life adding that there are indeed traditional and indigenous strategies to curb the trend.
The Aketi- led Government is not resting on his oars in ensuring the safety of the citizens in the state. This is evident in the recent approval for Amotekun to recruit and train more members in the Corps.
