PRESS STATEMENT
The attention of our Campaign Organisation has been drawn to the news making the rounds in the media that the National Secretariat of APC has adopted Indirect mode of primary election for Ondo state gubernatorial primary election slated for 20th of July, 2020.
Arising from this planted story, we have been inundated with phone calls from party members and the people of Ondo state who desire a new order in our party.
We wish to tell the public that the said planted news did not represent the decision of the National Caretaker Committee of our great party.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of our party is the body vested with the power to take decision on the mode of primary election to adopt and when such decision is taken, it shall be made public officially.
Assuming the caretaker committee wants to exercise the power of NEC, it shall communicate same to INEC for the purpose of information, the public and the gubernatorial aspirants on it’s platform
Therefore, it is not the duty of any government agency, individual or group regardless of their vested interest, to announce the decision on the adopted mode of primary chosen by APC.
The NEC and the National Caretaker Committee of APC are yet to take decision on the mode of primary to be adopted expectedly, no official information as regards it has been made available to INEC, the public and gubernatorial aspirants on it’s platform yet.
As at the time this fake news was and still making the round, the screening exercise was going on in Abuja. It will interest the members of the public to know that the screening committee set up by the National Caretaker Committee asked all the aspirants so far screened the mode of primary (direct or indirect) they will prefer. All the aspirants except one are unanimous in their demand for direct mode of primary election.
We therefore call on our supporters, party members and members of the public to disregard the news. It was purposely planted to test the resolve of the members of the party and create confusion in Ondo APC.
We assure you all that we shall respond in adequate measure whenever the mode of primary election is announced officially.
