ICC CONDEMNS ATTACK ON MEMBERS, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO PEACEFUL ENGAGEMENT
The Independent Consultative Council (ICC) strongly condemns the unwarranted attack on its members in Ajowa Ward 5 this morning by individuals allegedly acting on the orders of certain APC leaders in Akoko North West. This unprovoked aggression, which included the destruction of our Public Address system, occurred while our members were peacefully announcing a meeting scheduled for noon today.
This act of violence is not only undemocratic but also a clear attempt to suppress the freedom of association, a fundamental right of every citizen. The ICC, which has been instrumental in ensuring Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s victory and is now transitioned into the Independent Consultative Council, remains resolute in its commitment to unity and inclusiveness within the APC.
Our decision to conduct our activities in a peaceful and respectful manner, avoiding derogatory words or actions against anyone, is rooted in our respect for others and our belief in fostering harmony, not fear. However, let it be unequivocally stated that no group or individual holds a monopoly on violence. While we prioritize peace and will continue to advocate for it, we caution against actions that provoke or incite unrest within the local government.
The ICC has come to stay, and nothing will deter us from fulfilling our mission. We will not be intimidated or silenced by acts of aggression. Instead, we will continue to provide an inclusive platform where all members of the APC feel valued, empowered, and heard.
We urge all members and leaders of the APC to uphold the principles of democracy and fair play. It is only through collaboration and mutual respect that we can strengthen our party and deliver on the promises made to the people of Akoko North West.
We call on the relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate this incident and ensure that justice is served. As we move forward, we reaffirm our dedication to unity, progress, and peaceful engagement across all Ten (10) wards of Akoko North West Local Government.
