Prince Adedapo Adelegan, the Gubernatorial candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) paid a courtesy visit to INEC office following the fire outbreak that destroyed more than 5000 card readers.
Below is his statement as expressed to INEC officials in Ondo State.
We condemn the act of the fire outbreak at the INEC office that destroyed 2 container loads of card reader, it is both disturbing and condemnable. It projects a negative perception of our polity, which itself is not a reflection of the peaceful people of Ondo State. We commiserate with INEC and thank God that the fire is only limited to loss of equipment and not loss of life.
As this cannot continue, we appeal to the executive governor and political parties in Ondo State to let peace reign and prevent the act of this nature between now and the election from taking place.
I will also like to encourage INEC to strengthen its premises to ensure safety of life and property going forward, and appeal to our security forces who are working tirelessly, to please ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The ADC is determined to ensure that its supporters across the length and breath of Ondo State maintain peace, and conduct themselves inline with the electioneering laws during the electioneering period in October.
Once again, we pray and hope for a peaceful election.
