It was like a drama when Wife of a serving lawmaker representing one of the constituencies (name withheld) has vowed that she has concluded arrangements to file a divorce against her husband and lawmaker at the Ondo House of Assembly over alleged series of battering, inflicting various degrees of injury on her body.
The lawmaker who is a principal officer of the House, and a prominent APC member who is also seeking re-election into the Ondo state House of Assembly in the forthcoming 2023 election was said to have turned the wife into punching bag, as he always beats her at any slight misunderstanding.
The wife has also taken to her social media page to lament the torture she had been subjected to by the principal officer in Ondo Assembly and why there will be no going back on the divorce plans.
An impeccable source who is close to the lawmaker’s family told TENET that the lawmaker had been beating his legally married wife for over five years as the woman had been admitted into hospital on many occasions and all efforts to counsel him not to beat the woman again were not successful.
The source said despite failed interventions by the families of the couple, to settle the rifts between the lawmaker and his wife, the wife who is currently in pains has decided to seek divorce, a development that did not go down well with the lawmaker.
It was gathered that the lawmaker is now doing everything possible to stop the wife from divorcing him as this could tarnish his political ambition and career, particularly now that the general election is near.
The source said: “ I doubt if the scars on the woman’s body can be erased. I can not imagine a so called leader, holding a sensitive position in government, would continue to beat his wife without any justifiable reason.
“On many occasions, he had damaged more than three mobile phones belonging to the his wife without any reason.
“Anytime, they have little misunderstanding, he would bring out all the equipment that the wife is using for event planning and burn them to ashes. He has rendered the woman useless.
“He later sent her packing and the children from their matrimonial home, telling the domestic staff not to allow the wife into the building again and brought in another woman who is now pregnant.
“He also stopped the mother of three boys from collecting some stipends she was collecting to take care of the children.”
