2023: Hon. Abiola Makinde Declares Second Term Ambition as Member House of Representatives.
The Federal Lawmaker, representing Ondo East and West Federal Constituency, Hon. Abiola Peter Makinde has officially declared his intention to run for second term to his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the people of the federal constituency, as the member, House of Representatives, representing the federal constituency beyond 2023.
Hon. Abiola Makinde made this declaration on the 3rd of April, 2022 in front of party faithfuls and constituents who came in their numbers to show their support for the federal lawmaker who many described as true visionary and purposeful leader whose led representation has ushered in unprecedented development for the federal constituency in the past three years.
Present at the occasion were party leaders across the length and breadth of Ondo. Political stalwarts such as Ondo State Commisioner for Culture and Tourism; Hon Wale Akinlosotu, Ondo State Commisioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperative Services, Hon. Lola Fagbemi, Special Adviser on Strategy, Political & Legislative Matters; Dr Jibayo Adeyeye, Member of the House of Assembly, Ondo East; Hon Oladiji Landmark, Chairman, Ondo West Local Government; Hon Ebenezer Akinsulire alongside his Ondo East counterpart; Hon Wale Akinkuotu, party leaders, state excos and aspirants for different political offices under the platform of the APC in the upcoming 2023 general elections.
While declaring his intention to seek re-election, Hon. Abiola Makinde alongside his wife; Dr Mrs Rhoda Makinde,stated that the numerous achievements recorded through his led representation in the federal constituency was only made possible through the unalloyed support of the party members and the people he represents.
He further explained that his short stint as Ondo representative has brought good governance closer to the people. In his words, “We have successfully reconciled the representation disparity between the people of Ondo and their erstwhile representatives. We rekindled the belief of the Ondo people, gave the game a new name, redefined politics and democracy beyond textbook meaning.”
While making reference to some of the achievements of his led representation in the Federal Constituency which includes, successful passage of bill upgrading Adeyemi College of Education to University status, Ongoing Construction of Ultra Modern Public Library in the heart of Ondo; Construction of Modern Skill Acquisition Centre at Adeyemi; Construction of Public Primary and Secondary schools at Ajangbale; Construction of primary school at Odowo Community; Reconstruction of Akinwande, Owowumi Street and Igbo-Oja culverts; Provision of Solar light across Ondo East&West; Sponsoring of over 25 Ondo indigent students currently studying overseas including Sweden,Norway,India,Cyprus and the UK amongst many others, Hon. Abiola Makinde reiterated the need for the federal constituency to ensure it consolidates on the achievements of his able representation.
In his words, “More can be done, what we have done so far might be described as unprecedented by many, however they are tips of the iceberg, I assure you all that more will be done to give our people the federal constituency of their dreams while we are at the helm.” “I urge the entire Ondo people and our members of the APC to collectively opt for reaching the crescendo of these waves of development rapidly springing and spreading across Ondo East and West Federal Constituency and that can only happen when we vote for Hon Abiola Peter Makinde for second term as your servant and Member House of Representatives.”
In finality, the Deputy-Chairman, House Committee on Federal Character said “To change the future, we must avoid copying the past. The developmental indices of our dear community that has astronomically grown in our first term, should remain paramount and so must our resolve in ensuring that Ondo continues this positive developmental trajectory so we can speedily realise the Ondo of our dreams.”
The event also featured the presentation of brand new motorcycles to party members as well as the official welcoming of new members who decamped from the People Democratic Party (PDP), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) to join the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ondo while describing Hon Abiola Makinde to be the harbinger and pathfinder of genuine representation which has clearly evaded Ondo in the past decades.
